Nissan making electric music

Posted on February 16, 2009 at 11:31 pm

The auto maker says Middle Tennessee will be one of the first markets to get its 100-mile-per-charge electric cars late next year.

Mr. Perry said the Nissan, running on a lithium ion battery pack, won’t be a test model.

“We’re ready to go mass production and mass sales,” he said.

The Nissan official said that while the cost for a conventional vehicle of similar size may range from $28,000 to $30,000, the federal government is offering a tax credit of up to $7,500 on the electric. There also will be other steps to lower the buyer’s initial costs.

On a related note: The NYPD is preparing to put 20 Altima hybrids on the streets.

100 Mile per Hour ?? Speed is now the issue?

Yeah, just fixed that. Obviously, it was too late for me to be doing any kind of work that involves numbers.

I have been working as a security guard out at Nissan for almost a year. Our supervisors car was a Hybrid and it was sweet! It not only has the battery but takes gas as well. The gas engine kicks on when you go faster than 30mph. We had to charge the battery like once a week. But as far as how many miles you go depends on how fast you are driving.
