Why the Saturn story isn’t yet done
By Geert De Lombaerde Posted on October 1, 2009 at 11:11 amPhil LeBeau says the Saturn dealers GM so successfully wooed in the late 1980s are likely to throw their weight around in an attempt to save the brand and their business.
They will likely try to force GM into doing one of two things: 1) give them money to go away or, 2) get back in the room with Penske and work out a deal. And with the U.S. Government now owning a majority of GM, you can bet the Saturn dealers will press their case in Washington.

There are a lot of jobs at stake , I hope they work something out.
When you’re paid 80% or 90% of you salary while they retool the plant for a year or two, any fool should know something is wrong. I would have been taking classes or figuring out how to transition into something else while I had the paycheck. The best the dealers can expect is more stimulus or bailout money. There is no reviving the brand, sad because it was a good brand.
Saturn has been left to languish for too
long. Afraid the dealers on this one,
just like the Edsel dealers of long ago,are going
to be left out in the cold. Of
course, since the taxpayers own 66% of GM
they may get their money back and more.
