Glass Doctor, which markets various residential and commercial glass services from almost 400 stores around the country, says Nashville is on its wish list for franchising. The average franchised store rings up about $850,000 in annual revenues.

Vista-Pro Automotive, the car parts maker created by a Chicago private-equity investor this summer, says it plans to relocate at least 60 more people to its new Century City home in the coming year.

Companies in many sectors are complaining about the lack of available credit, but few could say they have it as bad as automotive suppliers. WPLN’s Daniel Potter reports on the hunt for capital and the rays of hope in auto manufacturing.
“Even good suppliers are being viewed skeptically by and large because they’re associated with the automotive industry. And the industry as a whole is in fairly difficult shape.”
DeKoker has tracked about 50 parts supplier bankruptcies so far – nowhere near the fallout he would’ve predicted in this economy. He chalks that up to companies “hibernating” – slowing production in hopes of lasting until business can pick up again.

Representatives of Bridgestone America Tire Operations and the United Steelworkers have agreed on the broad strokes of a new collective bargaining agreement that will cover more than 2,800 at four factories.

Morningstar analyst Joung Park says “beleaguered U.S. consumers are deferring tire replacements” during the recession. But once they find the cash to get new rubber for their rides, the industry — including Nashville-based Bridgestone, which isn’t examined here — will have a better time of it.
… [W]e believe that this pent-up replacement-tire demand will be released in the near future, likely in 2010 and 2011. We believe this confluence of contracting supply and rebounding demand for replacement tires will provide a temporary spike in profitability for Cooper and Goodyear by raising plant-utilization rates and tightening tire availability, thereby supporting pricing. In addition, falling raw-material costs could provide an additional boost to industry bottom lines.
Hundreds of auto jobs for Jackson

North Carolina-based Carlisle Tire & Wheel Co. has picked West Tennessee for a new factory that will make tires, inner tubes and wheels for various vehicles. The plant, which used to house Whirlpool operations, is expected to employ 440 people and will receive various incentives and tax credits from the state.

The tire maker will pay $375,000 to settle claims of false advertising related to the financial savings its tires could produce. In all, 17 states were part of the investigation, which was led by Tennessee Attorney General Bob Cooper.
