The Postal Service has tweaked its list of possible post offices that will be closed. No longer on death watch is a downtown landmark for which a number of area business had gone to bat.

Baker Donelson is moving quickly with putting its name on the downtown building where it recently signed on to expand. Workers will have all the required red letters on the side of the Baker Donelson Center well before NBC’s cameras switch on to transmit the Titans taking on the Colts this Sunday night.

Eyeballing GM’s planned dealership closings

UPDATED at 10 p.m. to include Murfreesboro and Dickson dealers.

General Motors this morning said it will kill off the Pontiac brand and sell or phase out Saturn, Saab and Hummer by the end of this year, which is more quickly than planned. Locally, those four badges account for the following 11 dealerships, most of which are attached to other brands’ outlets.

In all, GM now plans to trim its dealer network from more than 6,200 a year ago to 3,600 by the end of next year. In January, the company had said it was looking to get to 4,700 dealerships.

A.C. Entertainment will keep the name and management of Great Big Shows. The combined company’s first big splash is a Riverfront Park concert by the Allman Brothers Band and Widespread Panic in October.

Jersey Mike’s to open in Stahlman next week

The downtown spot will be the third for Chris Herndon, a former franchise who in 2001 bought the chain’s sub shops in Bellevue and on White Bridge Road. In conjunction with the opening, Herndon’s team will help raise money for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Anyone who has a fundraising coupon can get a free regular sub for a $1 donation from Mar. 18 through Mar. 21. Coupons are being distributed throughout the community and in local newspapers.
