Baptist Convention boss to retire

Morris Chapman, president and CEO of the Southern Baptist Convention, will retire from those posts at the end of next year. The departure of Chapman, who has served on the SBC’s executive committee since 1992, leaves three large Baptist organizations in leadership transitions.

Christian media company adds former Thomas Nelson exec

Worthy Media, the multimedia Christian content business launched earlier this year, has hired Rob Birkhead as vice president of creative. Birkhead is a former senior VP of marketing at Thomas Nelson and a senior exec at Integrity Publishers, also a former stop of Worthy colleagues Byron Williamson and David Howell.

Industry veteran launches multimedia venture

Byron Williamson, the former president of Word Publishing, has started Worthy Media, a holding company for various Christian-oriented business. His first venture is a video-based education company that is publishing a video series based on the “90 Minutes in Heaven” bestseller.

Williamson has recruited David Howell, formerly the CFO at Word Entertainment and Integrity Publishers, as his vice president of finance and operations. In addition, Jeana Ledbetter, formerly of Yates & Yates Literary Agency, is Worthy’s product development director.
