Downtown office market among region’s worst

Posted on July 28, 2009 at 3:01 pm

Almost one in five square feet of downtown Nashville’s office inventory stood empty at the end of June, one of the worst numbers in this part of the country. Only St. Louis’ downtown is in worse shape — and has been for several quarters — while the CBDs of Louisville and Charlotte are looking OK for now.

On the suburban front, Nashville is among the strongest performers (as is St. Louis, go figure) in the region with a vacancy rate of 13 percent.

The downtown spot will be the third for Chris Herndon, a former franchise who in 2001 bought the chain’s sub shops in Bellevue and on White Bridge Road. In conjunction with the opening, Herndon’s team will help raise money for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Anyone who has a fundraising coupon can get a free regular sub for a $1 donation from Mar. 18 through Mar. 21. Coupons are being distributed throughout the community and in local newspapers.

A new Nashville courier company serving Downtown, West End, and Green Hills offers an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional services. From the company website:

Bicycles make our service more environmentally friendly than any other Nashville courier company. Consider that 1 gallon of gasoline is about 31,000 calories. We can ride about 800 miles on that much energy.
