Bolsom says that until the recent recession, Mirror was a consistently profitable business. The restaurant witnessed dramatic changes in the neighborhood as 12South turned into a thriving retail and residential neighborhood. “It’s been a heck of a 10 years,” he says.
O’Charley’s knows where the beef is

A succcessful trial of a lower-priced sirloin meal has led O’Charley’s officials to put the item on its permanent menu. The move will be accompanied by several other prime rib offerings aiming to entice value-hungry diners. Shares of O’Charley’s (Ticker: CHUX) are up 30 percent from a year ago but flat since mid-August.

Hoodoo’s spartan Web site features very little on the company, which appears to be run by Iasis Healthcare General Counsel Frank Coyle, who together with fellow Iasis attorney Heath Clark, pushed to expand Tennessee’s distillery laws.
Blackstone a GABF winner

”We have other beers that have won medals but St. Charles Porter is the most decorated. This is the sixth GABF medal that this beer has won over the years. St. Charles Porter currently leads the Brown Porter category with the most medals ever.” says Stephanie Weins, Owner/General Manager at Blackstone Brewing Company.
NES awards food supply contract

U-Kno Catering, a company being grown under the umbrella of the Nashville Business Incubation Center, has been awarded a three-year contract to provide food services to 200 Nashville Electric Service employees each day. The deal is worth $250,000 to owner Brenda Odom and her team.

Innovative Beverage Group, marketers of the “extreme relaxation drink” known as “Drank,” in a release marketing its new two-ounce shot version for those “consumers looking to relax in a hurry,” mentions that the new product is “thriving” in our fair city.
John Layfield, founder of Layfield Energy said, “Drank Deuce(TM) is the product of a complementary partnership between Layfield Energy and Innovative Beverage Group. Its title as first ‘extreme relaxation’(TM) shot has helped it to thrive in Nashville, TN, and now that it’s available online we expect the kind of results that drank beverage received in its first year.”
We’ve never seen the stuff, but have to admit we’re intrigued by the idea of relaxing in a hurry.

The Nashville advertising agency will no longer work on the Chinet line of disposable tableware. The brand’s Finnish parent has awarded the business to the Olson agency, which bills itself as nontraditional and focused on social marketing.

Some early recognition for local gin distillery

Corsair Gin, the first product from a Nashville-based venture that crafts its wares in Kentucky, was recently awarded a gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. From a release:
Corsair Gin is produced in extremely small batches using a hand-hammered gin-head pot still. This uncommon step makes the gin crisp, with an exceptionally smooth finish. Corsair is produced using a mix of traditional and non-traditional botanicals, including juniper, coriander, citrus peels and hyssop. All ingredients are sustainably harvested, giving the Corsair Gin a unique and refreshing character. Corsair Gin is 44% ABV (88 Proof) and should be in Nashville liquor stores today. Lippman Bros. is the distributor.

Five Star jobs

It is opening a facility in Nashville and will eventually employ as many as 350 workers, ranging from material handlers and mechanics to quality control techs.
Five Star expects to be up and running by this fall.
Nashville breweries to celebrate Prohibition anniversary

The Saint Louis Brewery, brewer of Schlafly Beer, is hosting a Repeal of Prohibition Beer Festival at their Bottleworks location in St. Louis. This year’s festival will showcase Tennessee breweries, along with Schlafly favorites. The guest breweries will be Blackstone Brewery out Nashville, TN, Yazoo Brewing Company out of Nashville, TN and Boscos out of Memphis, Nashville and Cool Springs, TN.
