Pinnacle stages a raid in Franklin

Pinnacle Financial Partners has recruited three bankers — all with at least 19 years in the industry — from GreenBank to work at one of its Franklin offices. The details:

Long-time resident and Williamson County banker Steve King joins Pinnacle as a senior vice president and financial advisor. Paula Sanders will serve as the Alexander Plaza office manager. Amy Jones, who has worked side-by-side with King for the past 10 years, serves as a financial advisor assistant.

“Steve and Paula have worked together for more than 15 years. Along with Amy, they are tremendous additions to our team at Pinnacle,” said Larry Whisenant, senior vice president and manager of Pinnacle’s Nashville client services group. “Their outstanding reputations in the financial services community demonstrate our success in continuing to attract the most knowledgeable professionals in the market.”

Millions of stimulus dollars for area water projects

Officials in Nashville, Franklin and Dickson County can expect a stimulus check in the mail for water and wastewater system improvements. The total money being allocated to the three as part of the third round of Recovery Act spending is a shade under $14 million.

Frankin Civil War groups in JV

The boards of Franklin’s Carter House (pictured here) and Carnton Plantation have joined forces to market their Civil War sites as one. One of their goals is a linkup with big-name national organizations.

“Together, The Carter House and Historic Carnton Plantation will have a more powerful significance. This venture has the potential of joining the ranks of Gettysburg, Richmond and Charleston as more local battle sites are reclaimed for public access by such groups as the City of Franklin, The Heritage Foundation and Franklin’s Charge. Certainly, the opportunity to affiliate with the National Park Service and the National Heritage Area are greatly enhanced by this joint venture.”

The Brentwood-based bank has completed its acquisition of Magna Bank’s Maryland Farms office. Next up are offices in Franklin (slated for October) and Green Hills (January) that will have the three-year-old bank hiring another eight people, pushing its payroll over 60.

Designer leaves Giarratana team

David Koellein, who was a project manager and designer with Giarratana Development, has been named director of the interior design department at the O’More College of Design in Franklin. Before teaming up with Giarratana, Koellein worked at MDHA.

Main Street grants for area towns

The Tennessee Department of Economic & Community Development has awarded 22 Main Street Innovation Grants to communities around the state. The cash is to be used for beautification and other downtown revitalization efforts. Among the Middle Tennessee cities getting cash are Franklin, Gallatin and Murfreesboro.

Automotive retail entrepreneur R.C. Alexander was the big winner at the bankruptcy auction of The Auto Collection dealerships on Bakers Bridge Avenue. The dealers’ Ohio owner had placed them in voluntary receivership early this year during a fight with KeyBank.

Tennessee Commerce losses as expected

A much larger loan loss provision resulted in the Franklin-based bank losing $2.6 million in the first quarter versus a $1.4 million profit in early 2008. The company (Ticker: TNCC) had warned of the red ink early this month.

Eyeballing GM’s planned dealership closings

General Motors this morning said it will kill off the Pontiac brand and sell or phase out Saturn, Saab and Hummer by the end of this year, which is more quickly than planned. Locally, those four badges account for the following 11 dealerships, most of which are attached to other brands’ outlets.

In all, GM now plans to trim its dealer network from more than 6,200 a year ago to 3,600 by the end of next year. In January, the company had said it was looking to get to 4,700 dealerships.

Franklin bank director retiring

Franklin Financial Network, Inc., parent of Franklin Synergy Bank announced today that William W. Harlin, Jr. has retired from the Board of Directors. Mr. Harlin was a Founding Director of Franklin Synergy Bank in 2007. He has agreed to accept Director Emeritus status with the bank.
