Why state, local governments need more stimulus

Employment in state and local governments appears to lag that in the private sector by about a year. Given that the latter fell off cliff about a year ago, there’s a case to be made that funneling more stimulus cash to local governments now will stave off more job losses.

Nate Rau reports that Mayor Dean’s office will today put in motion plans to buy Bob Frensley’s former dealership at 5500 Charlotte for about $4 million and turn into into a Metro Police precinct and crime lab.
State tax collections to rise – but not because of the economy

The TDOR will continue to match the sales tax returns received with the business tax returns received. If the TDOR receives a sales tax return, but no business tax return, the taxpayer may receive a notice and possibly an audit. Business taxes audits will continue to be part of the standard audit which includes sales tax and franchise/excise tax.
