There are likely to be a  bunch of ‘em Tuesday at Lipscomb’s Allen Arena, which will host the Expo 50 fair showcasing all kinds of products catering to the older crowd.

Products from hot tubs to walk-in tubs or a sunny vacation to a screened-in sunroom; services from Medicare advocacy groups to social opportunities will be on-hand in this gathering of senior living organizations. Entertainment, product demonstrations and informational seminars will be held throughout the day.

Rationing or reform?

That’s the question a panel led by Rep. Jim Cooper will try to answer next Tuesday at an event hosted by Lipscomb. Other speakers at the event examining the ethics of health care reform will include Kevin Baggett, HCA’s director of clinical services, and former NFIB CEO Jack Faris.

Lipscomb Campus School names new headmaster

A national search has led the university’s committee back home to interim headmaster Michael Hammond, the former dean of Lipscomb’s College of Education.

“When we requested feedback from the Lipscomb community, Mike’s name came up consistently as the candidate we should select. Based upon conversations with the search committee, campus school faculty and with Dr. Hammond, he appeared to be the outstanding choice for the position.”

BarCamp gets healthy

Lipscomb’s pharmacy school will host HealthCamp Nashville, a one-day collaborative exercise centered on thrashing out ideas for the various evolving pieces of the health care market.

HealthCamp Nashville is unique to other conferences because the attendees determine what topics will be addressed ahead of time by submitting topics online and voting on ones they want discussed. When the open schedule slots are posted online, participants can see which topics are the most popular and offer to make a presentation about a particular topic.

Questions, not moralizing

It’s not our purpose or our place to try to moralize. Our purpose is to raise the question: “What’s the professional—and the right—thing to do? How do you define words like truth and integrity?” At our launch this month we did a seminar with Benjamin W. Heineman Jr., from Harvard, who wrote High Performance with High Integrity. He has done more thinking than anybody in the country on how to create a culture where people are motivated and rewarded for doing the right thing.

More than $1M for math in area schools

The Tennessee Department of Education has cut checks to MTSU and Lipscomb to boost elementary- and middle-school math teaching in most Middle Tennessee counties.
