Union suing HCA over flu shots

The Service Employees International Union says the country’s biggest hospital operator can’t unilaterally require employees to wear surgical masks if they haven’t been immunized against the H1N1 virus.
Union officials say the policy should have been subject to negations since it affects employment terms, but HCA has declined to bargain. HCA officials said the policy is part of their comprehensive infection-control program to protect workers and patients, and they plan to continue moving forward with it.
Texas doctor gets $10M in Iasis lawsuit

The doctor was awarded $10 million for past and future lost profits.
Gun maker takes aim at TDOT

Ronnie Barrett says state officials told him they were on board with his plans to expand and add 300 jobs just off I-24 in Rutherford County — until they weren’t and left him with a building he can’t get to.
“TDOT was very in favor of it. They said, ‘Yes, we like it. It’s an old farm fence out there. I think it’s going to be easy just to move the fence,’” said Barrett. “Now we have the inability to be able to win certain government contracts because our building’s not big enough.”
CCA settles with EEOC

The operators of a Colorado private prison have agreed to pay $1.3 million to settle a lawsuit alleging that male officers forced female workers to perform sexual acts to keep their jobs.
The federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced the settlement with the Dominion Correctional Services LLC and Nashville, Tenn.-based Corrections Corporation of America on Tuesday.
Thompson’s Station tells Tollgate to stop toiling

Saying developer James Carbine hasn’t followed through on a commitment to donate some land in his Tollgate development, Thompson’s Station officials have sued and ordered a halt to all construction work in the subdivision. Plans call for the 385-acre Tollgate site to have some 750 residences, but less than 100 have been built and occupied.
More class actions lobbed against Psych Solutions

The class action that took to task disease manager Healthways about its use of company stock in its 401(k) plan has been voluntarily dismissed because the lead plaintiff couldn’t make it to a deposition and had to withdraw from the case. The matter had been in the discovery phase with a trial date scheduled for next April.
HCA Vegas hospital sued over alleged assault

A woman who was treated two years ago at HCA’s Mountain View hospital in Sin City says staff allowed a man to enter her room and rape her while she was in a ‘coma-like’ state. Company officials say this is the first they’ve heard of the alleged incident.

So now that everyone on the planet has caught up to our story from yesterday on record labels suing the Ellen DeGeneres Show for violating copyrights, TheImproper.com in New York eloquently raises the point that the TV show host might have a hard time showing up for the American Idol judging she agreed to this week.
In this day of decline record sales and diminishing revenues, there is perhaps no bigger sin in the record industry, and the cavalier way in which the show dismissed the claims almost demands that she be fired from “American Idol.”
