Mall at Green Hills getting Rachel Roy line

The Macy’s store at the mall is one of 80 around the country to feature the latest line from designer Rachel Roy, whose work embodies “an uptown meets downtown point of view.”

Bridgestone, Macy’s layoffs — by the numbers

This week’s Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development listing of large-scale layoff notices puts a hard number to a couple of previously announced cuts.

The total toll at La Vergne’s Bridgestone tire plant: 802 employees to be affected between December 2008 and June 2009. That’s more than half the total workforce.

And at the Bellevue Mall Macy’s, slated for closure in March: 95 jobs to be lost.

Macy’s cutting 7,000 jobs

The country’s largest department store operator will lay off about 4 percent of its work force, streamline its purchasing and planning organization and slash its dividend. Macy’s (Ticker: M) employs about 800 people in the Nashville area.

Macy’s: Bellevue underperforms

The department store operator says it will close its Bellevue Center store along with 10 others. Clearance sales will begin next week.
