TNInvestco finalists to be announced
Posted on November 4, 2009 at 1:56 pmFrom the State of Tennessee:
Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber and Revenue Commissioner Reagan Farr have scheduled Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Central time to announce the six venture capital fund finalists and two alternates for the TNInvestco program. The TNInvestco program was created by the Tennessee General Assembly in 2009 and the commissioners of ECD and Revenue were charged with allocating $120 million dollars in gross premiums tax credits to the successful applicants in order to leverage private investment in early stage and mid stage capital investment programs. The aim of the program is to attract capital to Tennessee companies and create jobs in the process.
A little longer wait on West Tenn. megasite
Posted on September 21, 2009 at 7:27 amState ECD officials late on Friday said they have asked a State Building Commission subcommittee to defer any discussion of funding the planned Haywood County megasite until later this month. Area landowners apparently need some more time to get their arms around the site’s exact specs.
“Haywood County Mayor Franklin Smith has worked extraordinarily hard in putting this project together and is to be commended for his strong leadership. There is a great spirit of cooperation and excitement among property owners in the area,” said Commissioner Kisber “We fully anticipate all remaining details will be resolved in the coming days, and the land options exercised before the Oct. 31 deadline.”
ECD pub honors locals

Separately, the magazine’s readers have voted Arant Boult Cummings one of the region’s top ECD law firms. Nashville-based Tom Trent leads the firm’s ECD practice group.
Kisber eschews the gloom and the doom
Posted on February 8, 2009 at 1:15 pmTennessee’s Commissioner of Economic and Community Development sees good things for the state despite down economy:
“There is no question that the challenging economy is affecting everybody,” he said after the event. “But I do believe we are positioning ourselves so that when the economy turns, we’re in a stronger place than we were.”
He said Gov. Phil Bredesen told him to take advantage of the economic downturn and double the state’s efforts while others are pulling back.
“I tell you we’re out recruiting and marketing as much today as we have been at any time,” Kisber said. “We’re focusing on areas that have growth potential and stayability.
“I’ve been aggressively recruiting companies that are going to be involved in alternative energy and the renewable-energy sector. There is no question that is a huge growth opportunity,” he continued. “If we can be the place they plant their company, they take root just like the auto industry did and create thousands of jobs in the years ahead.”
The green jobs Mecca
Posted on February 2, 2009 at 9:53 amEconomic Development Commissioner Matt Kisber praises Tennessee’s ability to attract industry at a recent Kiwanis Club gathering:
“Hemlock Semiconductor announced an initial investment of $1.2 billion to build a plant in Clarksville to manufacture polycrystalline and silicon, the primary components in the manufacture of solar panels. Hemlock fully expects to spend $2.5 billion or more in Tennessee to create nearly 900 new jobs.” Kisber made the remarks at the Downtown Kiwanis Club.
Kisber also said, “Shoals Technologies, a company working on innovative solar technology engineering. This $10 million investment will create initially a hundred jobs and company officials say they are on track to employ 300 people in Gallatin within three years.
