Victor Results Advertising has recruited Marybeth Peters to be a vice president focused on integrated media work. Peters comes to town from an Indiana-based agency.
Local publisher nabs IPPY honor

The Road to Eden’s Ridge, a romance novel written by two Tennessee women and brought to market by Nashville-based Turner Publishing, has won a silver medal at this year’s Independent Publisher Book Awards. Turner has been run since 2002 by Todd Bottorff, son of Council Ventures chief Denny Bottorff.
Twitter’s value has quadrupled in less than a year

The Journal reports that the Internet messaging sensation is set to snag $100 million from various investors, including mutual fund house T. Rowe Price. The deal values Twitter at about $1 billion, some four time the number insiders say it was deemed to be worth earlier this year.

FiledBy finds traction in Cambridge

Christian media company adds former Thomas Nelson exec

Worthy Media, the multimedia Christian content business launched earlier this year, has hired Rob Birkhead as vice president of creative. Birkhead is a former senior VP of marketing at Thomas Nelson and a senior exec at Integrity Publishers, also a former stop of Worthy colleagues Byron Williamson and David Howell.
WPLN cranks up the chatting

Starting Tuesday, Nashville’s NPR outlet will fill its midday hours with news and talk programs. The classical music now being broadcast will move primarily to one of the station’s HD channels.

One of the biggest local players affected is MTSU’s athletic department, whose boss is crossing his fingers he can find a new partner before opening day.
News 2 getting new management company
Posted on July 22, 2009 at 5:34 pmAtlanta-based Gray Television has reached a deal with creditors of bankrupt Young Broadcasting to take over the management of seven of the latter’s TV stations, including News 2.
Gray (Ticker: GTN) runs more than 30 stations around the country, including stations in Knoxville and Bowling Green. Young President Deb McDermott, who ran News 2 before moving up the ladder, is getting a new contract.

Our brethren at MusicRow pass on some stats detailing the double-digit increases in of Country Music Television’s metrics.
Music video hours have also increased on the channel, with ratings up +17% versus the same quarter last year among total viewers, and up +14% among adults 18-49. In addition, video streams are up +23% for CMT.com for second quarter when compared to the same quarter last year.
WSJ: Gannett to cut hundreds more
Posted on at 12:13 amThe Wall Street Journal reports that Tennessean parent Gannett will lay off at least 1,000 workers in the coming days.
The impending move, which follows several aggressive cost-cutting efforts by Gannett over the past year or so, reflects the gloomy near-term outlook for an advertising recovery. The publisher cut 4,600 jobs last year and followed that by requiring most of its remaining employees to take unpaid leave in the first and second quarters.
