Dell shutting down Raleigh plant

The computer maker — which recently signaled just how confident it is about future success in that business — will in January shut the doors to its 900-worker plant in Raleigh, N.C. The slimmed-down Nashville operations of the once-high-flying company appear to be safe while the folks in Carolina fret about the fate of more than $300 million in incentives.

County officials in Winston-Salem will vote tonight on a proposed one-year, $4 million inmate health care contract with Nashville-based Correct Care Solutions.

The leader of century-old Williams Mullen says he wants to be in Nashville, Atlanta and Jacksonville five years from now. The firm, which is about the same size as the new Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, two years ago moved beyond its coastal territory by bringing on a firm with offices in Raleigh and the Research Triangle.

LP cuts back in NC

The building products manufacturer (Ticker: LPX) is laying off about 90 people at its laminated lumber mill in Wilmington, N.C., leaving only a skeleton crew to run the distribution center and maintain the plant.
