Santa Fe shrinking

The bankrupt restaurant chain Santa Fe Holding has closed at least 10 of its almost 30 roadhouse-style eateries since filing to restructure its finances in July. In Columbus, Miss., things appear to have gone smoothly enough, but in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the process of winding up shop last week included some weapon brandishing that called for law enforcement intervention.

“He started running his mouth at me,” Pate said, “and that’s when I went to my truck and got my shotgun, requesting strongly that he should leave my property.”

Franchise milestone for local restaurant firm

Santa Fe Holding, the roadhouse chain run by Nashville entrepreneur Danny York, will next week open its first franchise location. The Hammond, La., eatery will be the first of three scheduled to open in the Pelican State in the next year.

Santa Fe locks in the beef

The popular and rapidly growing Santa Fe Cattle Co. roadhouse style steak restaurant chain has reached an agreement on a fixed beef contract price for March through December 2009 with National Beef, the company’s current supplier. The agreed to terms will lock in beef prices for the rest of 2009 and reduce total beef cost by more than 6% from 2008.

Danny York’s small-town focus with Brentwood-headquartered Santa Fe Cattle Co. is producing some big growth numbers.

Update: Not all is swell. The company is closing down its Bowling Green eatery.
