Twitter’s value has quadrupled in less than a year

The Journal reports that the Internet messaging sensation is set to snag $100 million from various investors, including mutual fund house T. Rowe Price. The deal values Twitter at about $1 billion, some four time the number insiders say it was deemed to be worth earlier this year.

The problem with country fans and the Web

As traditional retailers continue to disappear and even Wal-Mart, by far the largest seller of country music, devotes less floor space to CDs, Capitol Records Nashville President and CEO Mike Dungan says that what worries him is, “if a sizable [portion] of our audience has no access online, then we’re out of business.”
Hannah, Taylor tower over other Twitterers

Our brethren at MusicRow have launched a chart that tracks country artists’ Twitter followers. Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift combine for more than 1.3 million people while the next 10 stars – a group that includes Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts and Willie Nelson – have a total of about 240,000 followers.

A unique revenue sharing model grants celebrity users 20% of gross revenue, following a $150 startup fee. As a result, clients gain a new revenue stream, while expanding their fan base, controlling their own image and communicating through a more intimate medium. In addition, BugleMe provides each client with a Web-based community for users to respond, via a platform of discussion boards, polls and other postings.
