LP Field makes first World Cup cut

The U.S. Soccer Federation has cut in half the list of potential venues for its 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids and Nashville’s riverfront stadium is among the 37 survivors. Other regional stadiums also still in the running: Neyland Stadium, Legion Field in Birmingham and the Georgia Dome.

Officials at the Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation are making their pitch to host the high school sports tournament, which has been held in Murfreesboro for the last four years.

Sommet in hunt for future SEC men’s hoops tourneys

Following the SEC’s spring meeting, word emerges that conference officials are talking with Nashville and Atlanta about hosting the 2013 and 2014 men’s basketball tournaments. The Sommet will also host the event next spring.

LP Field on initial World Cup stadium list

After playing host last week to the U.S. team’s 3-0 win against Trinidad & Tobago, LP Field is among 70 stadiums that have been sent info about U.S. Soccer’s bid to host the 2018 or 2022 World Cup. Neyland Stadium also is on the list.

Lender looking to slap name on Music City Bowl

Franklin American Mortgage Co., which for three years earlier this decade sponsored the local LPGA event, is in talks with the Sports Council about taking over the sponsorship of the Music City Bowl starting in 2010.

LP Field to host World Cup qualifier

The Washington Post says the U.S. men’s national soccer team will host Trinidad & Tobago on the East Bank April 1.

Awfully big stadium (68,798) for a mid-week match against the Soca Warriors –- no T&T supporters within hundreds of miles, I guess. I figure 12,000 in attendance.
