…to find out if Nashville might just host something that could happen in eight or possibly 12 years.

Convention & Visitors Bureau chief Butch Spyridon said today that officials with U.S. Soccer are “90 percent” certain they’ll announce the final slate of cities they’ll submit to FIFA, world soccer’s governing body, for the United States’ bid to host the 2018 or 2022 World Cup.

In the meantime, go support Nashville on the bid committee’s Web site. The Music City is one of more than two dozen finalists for the 14 to 18 locations for soccer’s world championships.

The U.S. Soccer Federation has cut in half the list of potential venues for its 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids and Nashville’s riverfront stadium is among the 37 survivors. Other regional stadiums also still in the running: Neyland Stadium, Legion Field in Birmingham and the Georgia Dome.

The Washington Post says the U.S. men’s national soccer team will host Trinidad & Tobago on the East Bank April 1.

Awfully big stadium (68,798) for a mid-week match against the Soca Warriors –- no T&T supporters within hundreds of miles, I guess. I figure 12,000 in attendance.

LP Field is in the – admittedly early – mix to host a World Cup qualifier for the U.S. men’s national team.
